The IW Club of Torino Europea (District 204, Italy) have been assisting the Association “Piccoli Passi Onlus (Small Steps Onlus)” during 2016. The Asssociation is a group of volunteers that includes families of children born preterm or with underlying conditions, and practitioners in Neonatology of the Turin University.
Prematurity is that condition in which a baby is born before 37 weeks of pregnancy. The severely preterm infants require very complex care, because extremely fragile creatures who do not yet possess the ability to regulate itself.
The welfare philosophy is a neonatal intensive care, geared towards customization and individualization, according to the model to "take care" of the preterm infant and critic, and his family.
The Association promotes specific initiatives in support and protection of families or preterm infants with the disease, during hospitalization and after discharge from the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Are supported all initiatives aimed at promoting the well-being of the parents, the proximity to their child, the active involvement of the family in assistance and sharing information and experiences with the staff and other parents.
The donation has been delivered to Doctor Alessandra Coscia, responsible of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of the Turin University. This service falls within the IIW Social Project “Happier Futures, Better lives”.
