"United Against Drugs"

A Project of IW Club Stara Zagora, District 248 Bulgaria

The aim of the project is to introduce the 6th to 10th grade pupils and their parents to the detrimental effects of drugs on the human body, psyche and life by providing lectures with a presentation by a specialist, thematic brochures and puppet theatre.

1. From the beginning of November 2017 on the schedule in the schools in the town of Stara Zagora a lecture with a presentation on "Designer Drugs" by Dr. Dobrinov - Head of the Dependency Department at the Psychiatric Hospital in Radnevo was presented to the students from the 8th and 9th grade. The multimedia lecture is presented in an interesting and accessible way to the children. The directors, psychologists, teachers and pedagogical advisors they have been in contact with, express the view that the lecture is very useful and timely, and they are keen to repeat it for the older students as well.

2. In classes and parent meetings, they distribute themed promotional materials - posters and brochures for students and parents that show the effects of drug use. A booklet describing the types of narcotic drugs and the signs for recognizing the children involved in the drug as well as the modes of action according to their age is prepared for the parents. The contents of the brochures are prepared by specialists and approved by the Ministry of Education and Science.

3. IW Club Stara Zagora continues to work with State Puppet Theatre. This IW year they focus on another target group - students from the 6th grade of schools. The theatre presented the play for adults - "The confession of a drug addict". The play shows the impact of drugs on one's mind in a different way. Using the means of puppet art, artists rebuked these influences through lighting, sound, shadows, dolls and more.

This is a cause that affects all and through working together they can achieve a lot for "CHILDREN"- our future.
