President Phyllis’s visit to Malaysia - enjoying Batik Night Fellowship

In the evening of 21st January, 2020, IIW President Phyllis and PDG (Rotarian) Paul Charter attended an informal get-together with a batik theme organised by National Representative Juanita Lee and her club members, the Inner Wheel Club of Kuala Lumpur, at her residence. About fifty over members, including Rotarian spouses, from several clubs, many of whom were unable to attend the earlier functions in Taiping and Ipoh, took this opportunity to meet President Phyllis. On arrival, President Phyllis and PDG Paul Charter presented NR Juanita with a beautiful bouquet of roses which warmed her heart with delight and thankfulness for such a thoughtful gesture.

On the menu were signature local cuisine such as satay (skewered barbecued chicken with peanut sauce as dip), dumplings, lacy crêpe with chicken curry and many types of fresh local fruits in season. The surprise of the evening was a cake decorated with red roses in celebration of her visit to District 330 which rolled in with a chorus of “she is a jolly good fellow”. To top up the memorable moment, NR Juanita presented President Phyllis with a gift set of baroque pearl necklace and a pair of baroque pearl earrings.

In keeping with the theme, a fashion show by members of the Inner Wheel Club of Kuala Lumpur showcased different styles of batik fashion for ladies, one of which was presented to President Phyllis. On invitation, she promptly and sportingly agreed to model her outfit. As she appeared, there were loud applause and approval from the audience. Click to see the show!!

The Inner Wheel Club of Intan Kuala Lumpur, a new generation club, was next in the programme as they showcased tote bags made from recycled T-shirts. A lot of interest was generated as members were curious to know how it was made. President Phyllis was presented a bag of her choice as a memento.

With two more days in Malaysia, this was the last gathering in fellowship of club members in District 330. By including the World Inner Wheel Day celebration at Taiping and the welcome dinner by clubs in Kinta Valley, President Phyllis would have met at least a member from each of the 22 clubs in the District. All these members can proudly say that they have had their moment with the IIW President of 2019-2020. We thank President Phyllis and International Inner Wheel for making this dream a reality.
