It was a great honour and privilege to extend a very warm welcome to IIW President Mrs Phyllis Charter and her husband Mr Paul Charter during their visit to Split, Croatia.

They were invited to the newly established IW Club Split Palmina D191 and they participated in chartering of the new club.

The IIW President stayed in Split from 17th to 22nd of September.

During her stay in Split IIW President, Mrs Charter visited the cultural and historical sites of the 1700 years old city of Split, the second largest city in Croatia.

She was truly impressed while discovering charms of Diocletian palace, which is one of the best-preserved monuments of the Roman architecture in the world and is part of the UNESCO Cultural World Heritage List since 1979.

Mrs Charter visited also the Mestrovic Gallery which houses the masterpieces of Ivan Mestrovic carved in marble, bronze and wood. The house is surrounded by a Mediterranean garden which, with its bronze sculptures, sea view and central Dalmatian islands makes a unique example of the landscape architecture.

Together with some members of IW Club Split Palmina she also visited the nearby city of Sibenik, hosted by friends from IW Club Sibenik and visited St Nicholas' Fortress located at the St Anthony's Channel entrance in Sibenik, a unique Renaissance building of Venetian fortification architecture and an exceptional monument of the world’s architectural heritage.

The visit included also the Cathedral of St. James in Sibenik, one of the most significant and most beautiful architectural achievements in Croatia which is also a part of the UNESCO Cultural World Heritage List in 2000. We were guided by Mr Nikica Vucenovic in Sibenik, a member of the Rotary Club Sibenik.
