International Day of Zero Tolerance For Female Genital Mutilation February 6th, 2022.

The International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation takes place every year on February 6th.

It was introduced by the United Nations in 2003 to eradicate this harmful practice.

At least 200 millions girls and women alive today have undergone FGM. 15 million more girls could be affected by 2030.

FGM, which entails the partial or total removal of the female external genitalia and other injury to female genital organs, may be present in more than 90 countries and it is normally carried out between infancy and age of 15.

FGM violates the human rights of women and girls. Ending FGM is essential to give girls control over their bodies and lives.
