International Day For The Elimination Of Violence Against Women – 25th November 2021

The United Nations General Assembly designated November 25 as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women inviting Governments, International Organisations and NGOs to raise awareness of the issue on that day.

Last year this day was designated as the “Orange Day”since this colour symbolizes a better future, free of violence against women.

Violence against women and girls is one of the more devastating human rights violations.

In their lifetime 1 in 3 women are subjected to physical or sexual violence.

It is endemic in every country and culture and has been exacerbated by Covid-19 pandemic as a result of lockdowns and disruptions to vital support services.

Countries should honour their commitments to tackle gender-based violence and ensure essential services for survivors of violence.

The first priority of Presidential Theme 2021-22 “Pink First” is women’s Health and one of its goals is the elimination of violence against women.
