IIW President Message 15-5-2020
As another week passes by, we are all experiencing different stages of lockdown and social distancing in our various countries. Effectively, we are all venturing into the unknown and monitoring the slow demise or flare ups of the Covid-19 that are happening across our borders. Whatever stage we are in, we must still stay safe, stay alert and be aware of our own country’s restrictions and uphold these as this will in turn be our salvation to once again being together and being able to hold our meetings and activities.
Life will one day return to “normal” but it will be a “new normal” for a very long time and very dependent on having an effective vaccine freely available for everyone.
Together we can overcome this virus and together we can make a difference.
One of my favourite hymns has many lines that we use in our everyday life as an Inner Wheel member and act as a good reminder to us as we help alleviate the problems within the world.
Where there is hatred, let us sow love,
Where there is injury, pardon,
Where there is doubt, faith,
Where there's despair in life, let us bring hope,
Where there is darkness, only light,
And where there's sadness, ever joy
So much to be consoled, as to console
To be understood, as to understand.
Nevertheless, everything we do takes time - but TIME – what is TIME?
The definition of TIME is: - duration - continued existence.
Unfortunately, Covid-19 which has dominated our lives and existence for many months now has no respect for time. For many Time has ceased and for others - hours have seemed like days.
In all our lives we need TIME for everything – time for happiness, time for sorrow, time to remember, time for understanding, time for patience, time to believe in our fellow Inner Wheel members, time to perceive the value of being an Inner Wheel member.
However we look at time we all have to stay strong, stay safe and stay well, we cannot relax and go “back to our old ways”. We have to think of tomorrow and the future of Inner Wheel for the benefit of all members. Inner Wheel needs its members and the members need Inner Wheel – it is a two way situation and by working together, talking together, enjoying each other’s company together, we can make it stronger and will be at the forefront of many women’s lives for the next 100 years.
The key workers and the many other people that help in whatever way to keep our communities alive continue to work beyond the expectations of any of us and are a credit to their profession. My thoughts and prayers are with you all – please keep up the good work you are achieving. Inner Wheel salutes you all with a very big thank you.
With many Clubs and Districts holding “Virtual Meetings”, we can all enjoying seeing one another but it is still not the same as sitting face to face and giving one another a hug. Let us hope that that TIME in our lives will return.
Please all stay safe – stay alert – and keep in touch. Remember Inner Wheel needs you.
Love and best wishes,
