The IW Club of Kuala Lumpur, D330 celebrated International Women’s Day at their General Meeting for the Service Year 2016/17 on the 1st March 2017. Their members were encouraged by their President, Harshinder Kaur, to wear shades of Purple for the meeting as it symbolises “Dignity” and “Justice” in line with the International Women’s Day celebrations.
The guest speaker, Ivy Josiah, the former Executive Director of the Women’s Aid Organisation (WAO) in Kuala Lumpur was invited to speak on this year’s International Women’s Day theme “Be Bold For A Change”. WAO us a non-profit organisation that extends counselling and shelter to abused women and their children. This women’s organisation’s mission is to promote and create respect, protection and fulfilment of equal rights for women. WAO advocacy includes the elimination of discrimination against women to bring about equality between women and men.
Ivy shared the lessons she learnt from the women and children who sought WAO services. Women who were bold enough to break away from violence.
The IW Club of Kuala Lumpur’s member PDC Juanita Lee left no leaf unturned when she lighted the whole meeting room up with deco in shades of purple to further enhance the celebrations The members were treated to a sumptuous High Tea and Lucky draws in commemoration of the celebration.
