On the evening of Tuesday, 23 November 2021, Club President Rosa Sinigaglia and the members of the Inner Wheel Club of Salò e Desenzano, Inner Wheel District 206, held a fundraiser in support of their work for the community.
The event at the clubhouse of Tresine in Desenzano del Garda was attended by numerous Rotarian and non-Rotarian guests who generously contributed to the success of the fundraising in support the Club’s service in a concrete way. In her speech, President Rosa Sinigaglia spoke passionately about the services of the Club. After the usual greetings and thanks to all present, Rosa introduced the guest of the evening, Professor Claudio Pagliari, President of ANDOS (Associazione Nazionale Donne Operate al Seno, an association that supports women who have undergone breast surgery).
Professor Claudio Pagliari explained how the association was created in 1976 by the initiative of a Red Cross nurse and a surgeon, Professor Pietri. Initially, the Association dealt with the physical rehabilitation of women who have undergone breast surgery as complications often occur after mastectomies. Thanks to the introduction of preventive medicine, it has since been possible to intervene with increasingly less invasive measures, thus reducing medical complications and allowing volunteer staff to focus on psychological rehabilitation. Very often, volunteers are women who have themselves been affected and could assist those in a similar situation. Sadly, we might come to know someone who has to face such a reality and it is a fundamental duty of each to be present to help and alleviate where there is pain.
The funds raised by the Club have been used for the needs of the various health facilities in which ANDOS relies on. ANDOS thanked the Club for the support.
Prof. Pagliari then donated his book entitled "Amazons 2" to those present. The book is a collection of images of women operated on the breast, with the intent to make the association known, to underline the importance of prevention, and to demonstrate the strength that every woman can find within herself, just like a real Amazonian!
It was a pleasant and an unforgettable evening spent with the enjoyment among all who knew that we meet together to do good, and that only with solidarity and harmony can small and large results be achieved.
