Medical Camp & Cancer Screening for underprivileged girls and women.

World Inner Wheel Day (10 January) is a very special day for all Clubs around the world to celebrate in different ways. The International Inner Wheel theme for 2021-2022 – PINK FIRST, and the IIW social project campaign for STRONG WOMEN STRONGER WORLD, are so meaningful and all encompassing, allowing Clubs to think of diverse ways to do their part for society, specifically for women and children. The members of the Inner Wheel Club of Klang put brawn and brain together to organise an event that met one of the four priorities of the PINK FIRST theme i.e., Health.

In collaboration with the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang and the National Cancer Society of Malaysia, IWC Klang organised a complimentary Medical Camp & Cancer Screening for underprivileged girls and women. The response was overwhelming and 100 attendees were successfully screened, which included screening for overall health, cataract, cervical and breast cancer, pap smear and hepatitis. The ladies who completed their tests expressed profuse gratitude as they could never have been able to do all those tests if they had to pay.

This camp truly manifested what Inner Wheel is all about – members getting together and exerting effort and time to organise events which can make a difference in the lives of others. It was a long journey which culminated in this Camp, starting with contacting and coordinating with Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah and the National Cancer Society, preparing google form registration and e-banner to promote the event via social media, making sure door gifts were nicely packed, getting the venue ready, managing the registration, controlling the crowd to ensure social distancing and ensuring a smooth flow of the programme on that day itself.

Club President Krisnavani thanked all the members, doctors and nurses and everyone else who cooperated to make this event a success. It was indeed a very memorable project, one that will stand out from all the activities that the Club has executed for the 2021-2022 term.
