On 6 March 2022, the Inner Wheel Club of Quatre Bornes in Mauritius eventually held 3 functions which were on hold due to COVID-19 restrictions.
In spite of having to keep it small, it turned out to be a grand success — no one was in a hurry to go home.
The highlight of the day was the Margaret Golding Award which was kept secret from the recipient Rossalyn Lebon. Rossalyn is devoted to improving the life of the downtrodden children, women and elders; somehow having the ability to put a smile on their faces even in dire moments. When it was announced to all present at the function, in surprise, Rossalyn burst into tears, and Immediate Past President Ganam Patten had to coax and guide her up on stage. Rossalyn was so touched by the award that three days later when President Kovilah called her, she was still admiring and touching the badge and Certificate, as if in disbelief.
The second item was 2020-2021 Club President Ganam passing the President’s Chain of Office to 2021-2022 Club President Kovilah. This was a ceremonial recognition of President Kovilah and her executive committee who have been in office since 1 July 2021. Several projects have been successfully carried, such as the furnishing of a newly set up orphanage, donation to a shelter for homeless men, and a major project involving students of a school to do some paintings for the Paediatric Oncology Ward of the neighbouring Hospital.
A new member, Dorita, was inducted in this event. While waiting for her Induction into the Club, she was already giving personal service. Dorita was the driving force of the oncology ward project as she is in charge of the school students.
The magic of this oncology ward project was that the young patients, who would have a weakened immunity to infections, were not exposed to us at all. One of the doctors, the son-in-law of Chandni, also a newly inducted member, had volunteered to take charge of affixing the paintings during his spare time.
Next month in April 2022, the Club will hold a Blood Donation Day jointly with the Rotary Club of Quatre Bornes and the Ministry of Health. The country is in dire need of blood
