IWC Cebu Central Wraps Up Pink October with Donation Drive and Dance Off

October has been a very busy month for the dynamic Pink First ladies of the Inner Wheel Club of Cebu Central! At the beginning of the month, they kicked it off with a simultaneous pink lighting event with several local government units and some members of the private sector to raise awareness on Breast Cancer and hosted a webinar on Stroke during World Stroke Day.

To cap the eventful month of October, the IWC of Cebu Central led by President Daisy Toledo and several of the Club’s officers and members visited (in their face masks and face shields) the Seven Sisters Elderly Home to help by providing for the physical and health needs of the elderly women-wards of the Home. District 386 District Chairman Evelyn Toledo-Dumdum, who is also a member of the IWC of Cebu Central, joined this visit.

This Home is adversely affected by the COVID-19 crisis as many of those who used to provide financial assistance and other support, have also been badly affected by the global pandemic. All of its residents are at high risk, with many of them referred by the government’s Department of Social Welfare & Development. The religious sisters (Servants of Mary) tending the Home and its female elderly wards rely mostly on generous souls to help sustain their daily requirements.

Knowing this, IWC Cebu donated essential supplies such as BP monitors, thermometers, oximeters, disinfectant liquids, house clothes, slippers, milk, oatmeal, biscuits and toiletries, twenty bags of 5 kg rice packs, six packs of 20pcs-per-pack adult diapers and assorted rosary beads.

Due to mandated health and social protocols, these items were presented to the nuns because the elderly ladies who are in their senior years cannot go out of their rooms to personally receive their early Christmas gifts. The current restrictions and increased isolation had made regular visitations difficult, which made such donations all the more appreciated.

After their visit, the Pink First ladies completed the month with a bang! They hosted another Facebook Live event, this time featuring awesome dance numbers in a one-hour Zumba session in an open space, mindful of the health and social protocols.

It was a great opportunity not only to fellowship with one another but also to enjoy a healthy workout. They danced to a wide range of EDM mixes as well as disco classics. And at the session’s conclusion, they hosted an exciting raffle with giveaways for those who were watching. It was truly an incredible way to end all the hard work the club members have put into Pink October’s many events and activities.
