On 18 December 2021, an inter-district friendship meet was held between Districts 330 and 331. This opportunity for members of both districts to continue get up close and personal was organised by District Extension Organiser (DEO) Peggy Lee of District 330. Both Districts have been in touch regularly, and friendship continues to be forged; this Meet was well received by members of both Districts, with about 60 participants attending and excitedly exchanging greetings and pleasantries.
Emcee Immediate Past District Chairman (IPDC) Shanti Menon set the ball rolling with her opening address. Deputy National Representative of Districts 330 and 331 Parimala Satheesan, lit the Candle of Friendship and recited the poem. Before proceeding with the agenda, members observed a minute’s silence to honour two IIW Past Board Directors the late Lucy Tokuzip (District 331) and Joy Sundram (District 330). Their passing on 26 August 2021 and 21 November 2021, respectively, has left an indelible mark on Inner Wheel.
The Emcee then called upon District Chairman Shamini Nair of District 330 to deliver her address and DC Shamini spoke on the importance of friendship and how Inner Wheel stands for long-lasting camaraderie amongst members. DC Datin Gillian Lee of District 331 echoed the same sentiments and expressed her appreciation for this event which truly transcended borders.
The next item on the agenda was a brief introduction of new Clubs in both Districts. DEO Peggy spoke about three new clubs in District 330, namely, the Inner Wheel Clubs of Azul and Melaka, both chartered and registered in 2021, while the third, the Inner Wheel Club of Damas has received its Charter but is awaiting approval from the Registrar of Societies, Malaysia. District Extension Chairman of District 331 Phyllis Fong then gave a similar presentation on the Inner Wheel Club of Singapore Central, the latest addition to District 331.
Following this, IIW Board Director Datin Seetha Lakshmi delivered an inspiring presentation on the prestigious Margarette Golding Award (MGA), its history and the stringent criteria to select a recipient. Both Districts now proudly have five awardees, i.e., Anne Lasimbang of IWC Kota Kinabalu, District 331; and District 330’s To’Puan Lam Lee Pin of IWC Kuala Lumpur, Datin Pearl Jai Mohan of IWC Kuala Lumpur City Centre and Girija Menon of IWC Petaling Jaya. What was truly enlightening was that four of the five recipients attended the Meet and each reflected on and shared their own journey which led to their being bestowed the MGA.
As the curtains came down on an event that saw friendships continue to be renewed and invigorated, Emcee IPDC Shanti Menon assured the members that this event would certainly not be the last. With about a week to go for Christmas, members wished each other, all fervently expressing the same hope that 2022 would be a truly PINK and healthy year.
