Ventilator Helps Save Lives Of COVID-19 Patients In Rural Sri Lanka

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused an unprecedented crisis in Sri Lanka, leading to loss of lives, sending the public health system into shock, causing widespread economic and social disruption, and acutely and disproportionately impacting the livelihoods of the most vulnerable.

To support efforts to strengthen the overburdened health system in Sri Lanka, the Inner Wheel Club of Colombo donated a Resmed Bi-level Ventilator to the Thambuththegama Base Hospital located in the North Central Province of the country.

It is a rural hospital in an area lacking adequate facilities. They have set up a national Level twenty-four bedded high dependency unit to handle the acutely infected patients. The club also donated non-rebreather masks and the total project cost amounted to LKR 610,000 (approximately USD3,000).
