The League of Friends of St Austell Community Hospital was established just over 50 years ago to mobilise encourage, foster and maintain the interests of the public in the patients and staff and by support of the work of the hospital and community nursing service, by means of voluntary service. Cecilia is the designated contact for this charity.
Cecilia volunteered with the St Austell Community Hospital League of Friends almost 50 years ago when a family member was its Chairman. She became its secretary approximately 25 years ago and has since helped to raise thousands of pounds per year through raffles, co-ordinating the organisation of the annual summer fete, book sales, bereavement donations and donations through fundraising organisations and local businesses.
She has bought, wrapped and distributed Christmas presents each year, using her own funds, for the inpatients of the hospital on Christmas Day. Most of the work falls to Cecilia to keep the League of Friends operational and to raise funds to enable the hospital to have equipment to function at full efficiency for the benefit of the community, equally for inpatients and outpatients.
Award announced at Zoom meeting 30th April 2021- Actual presentation to be confirmed.
