Inner Wheel Forest in India

Posted by | Feb 03, 2021 |

Inner Wheel Forest, an idea that germinated on 30th September 2014; an idea that took shape by planting 350 trees in the one acre of land at Kandivali East, near Akurli hills. This forest land was allocated by the Forest department for reforestation. A toxic piece of land filled with debris of encroached homes and junk collected over a long period of time. Out of the initial 350 only 100 trees survived thanks to the toxins in the land. We cleared and cleaned with the help of college students over a period of three and a half months and continued our mission of tree plantation and reforestation without disturbing the ecological system of the land. Every plant/tree we planted was 3 to 5 years old.

“Success is not final; failure is not fatal; it is the courage to continue that counts” said Winston Churchill. We at Inner Wheel District 314 consistently planted trees and this year in September 2020 we will enter our 7th Year of tree plantation. We have till date planted 10,000 trees spread over 15 acres in the surrounding area. Our unique addition is the Bougainvillea forest which has covered the ground with 3000 Bougainvillea to protect the forest from human and domestic animals.

We still need to add more trees to make the forest cover thicker and greener and Inner District 314 commits to take care of it for the next 5 years at the minimum and as long as it takes.

We encourage our children to come visit and plant trees on their special occasions enrolling them in our efforts to save Mother Earth.
