It was an honour to have International Inner Wheel President, Phyllis Charter, participating in the Green Project of the IWC of Petaling Jaya during her visit to Malaysia.
The event that was held at the Taman Tugu Forest Park on 21st of January 2020 was also graced by the National Representative Juanita Lee and District Chairman of District 330 Padmini Menon.
The Green Project is a Community Event too as IWCPJ sponsored 30 students from the Fugee School, a school that provides education opportunities for refugee children in Malaysia.
Members of IWCPJ together with the students received an awareness talk to preserve trees by the Taman Tugu Team and a hands-on education on planting seedlings in polybags by Free Tree Society Kuala Lumpur; an environmental organisation that spreads the environmental stewardship message through giving away trees for free to green our Earth. The students will be caring for these planted plants at their school until they are matured enough to be planted at a site to be determined by IWCPJ.
The highlight of the day was a 4km guided trail walk through the forest to appreciate the lush greenery in the heart of the city. The trail guides explained that some of the trees spotted are more than 1-meter in diameter and were potentially over 100 years old.
The half day program started at 8am and ended with a scrumptious lunch in the park.
