SOME FACTS  AND STATEMENTS ABOUT VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN

Joint Statement by Council of Europe Secretary General Marija Pejčinović Burić, France’s European Affairs State Secretary Amélie de Montchalin, on behalf of the Presidency of the Committee of Ministers, and Parliamentary Assembly President Liliane Maury Pasquier

“On the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, our thoughts are with the victims of domestic violence and other forms of gender-based violence. Far too many women are still dying at the hands of their partner or former partner. And as their lives are destroyed, their families are left to deal with grief and loss“

An estimated 35% of women worldwide (around one in three women) have experienced domestic or sexual violence.

All over the world, women have recently demonstrated in over femicide rates, domestic violence, and sexual harassment. It’s a percentage that many experts find staggering, saying it reveals a global crisis of violence against women.

"I find it very sad that in every society we have violence against women. In every society," said Marceline Naudi, the President of the Council of Europe's Group of Experts on Action against Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (GREVIO).

Inner Wheel club Prelog ( District 191 Croatia) has marked International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women by organising professional meeting “Life without violence“, what was held in Prelog , on 15th of November 2019.

Day after the meeting, it was held another action on the street in Prelog where IW members have distributed educational and informing leaflets about violence- how to recognize the violence, to whom should violence be reported if it happened to you, how the system takes care of the victims.  The aim of this action was to encourage women in local area to report violence if it happens.

After two very intensive days we, members of IW club Prelog, do not hide satisfaction with the successful actions which brought together a large number of people who put a lot of energy in the fight against violence against women and strive to build a tolerant environment in which we live.
