Dieppe Club donates to Language Learning

Members of Inner Wheel of Dieppe (Seine-Maritime) went to the local branch of the Red Cross on Wednesday, February 20, 2019, to deliver a check for € 1,000 for workshops to learn the French language. They had already worked towards this goal previously. Françoise Gagnaire, the president of the Dieppe Red Cross, received the delegation led by Chantal Millour.

 Individualised courses

The learning workshop of the French language allows foreigners to become familiar with the language of Molière, but also to help local people who are in great difficulty or even illiterate.

The courses are individualised, underlines Françoise Gagnaire. Volunteer trainers can sometimes be a small group of two or three people when they are all the same level.

The public is quite varied and between 15 and 30 people are registered at the workshop. The President states:

“We have a lot of foreign people sent to us by the Cada, the reception centre for asylum seekers, but also unaccompanied minors or just people that the Red Cross helps.”

Five volunteers

Each participant comes to study French for at least one hour per week. Classes are taught by volunteers. There are currently five of them, most of them retired teachers.

The 1,000 € donated to the Red Cross by Inner Wheel will finance educational material and the running of essential workshops for the proper integration of the people who benefit from it.
