IW Social Meeting raises money for clowns in Stavanger Hospital

Participants from 16 countries across Europe met in Stavanger, Norway between 6th and 9th September 2018. It started on the Friday evening with dinner at our hotel where everybody introduced themselves and their husbands. In this connection husbands are “Outer Wheelers” enjoying themselves on outings, while the Inner Wheel members are working hard on numerous topics (see below).

This year, it was decided to skip the gifts to each other – they steal too much time – and divert focus from why we are gathered. Instead we collected a voluntary amount of money from each – resulting in 8,000 NOK a little less than €1,000 enabling the Children’s Ward at the Stavanger University Hospital to invite the Hospital Clowns, sponsored by Inner Wheel!

The issues discussed after ad-hoc groups had been working on them for a year, were among others:

  • Extension – how to get new members and keep the old ones;
  • How to avoid disbandment of Clubs;
  • Possible new proposals for Jaipur 2021 and International Social Projects.

The weekend meeting wasn’t organised by a country’s Council, but volunteers who have attended previous meetings, with local Inner Wheel Club Members and also Rotarians helping out.

Thanks were given to the organisers in Stavanger:
