The Non District IW Club of Schoelcher, from Martinique, organised a lunch for 50 people at Hotel Batelière to celebrate the International Women’s Day with two exceptional Martinican ladies – our guests of honour. Our dress code for the event was white with a panama hat!
Our Rotary and Rotaract friends as well as members of other Inner Wheel clubs joined us to celebrate this Day.
Betty, Dominique and Lucette presented a slide show with a lot of background information on the historical events that lead up to this event and closed with a number of quotations on women - a big thank you for their work and input
Mrs. Marie-Eugenie Andre – our opening guest speaker -gave us a very interesting talk on her work during the 17 years that she was with the National Savings Bank. At the same time she also worked for the Chamber of Commerce to help the economic development of Martinique – she was the project bearer for the inter-company nursery which still functions today.
Mrs. Denise Marie, a teacher and member of various charities and who also sits on several Boards of Directors, gave a us a very lively and entertaining presentation of her work not only as a very active member of various associations but also as a member of the Consumer Union.
After lunch, to a musical background and Mr. Bouchet playing his trumpet, members of our club paraded in beautiful Creole-inspired dresses made by Mrs Dinal.
A big thank you to all members who helped to make this a successful day.
