Each year the „16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence Campaign“ is organized with actions and activities around the world from November 25th, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women to December 10th, Human Rights Day.
This year the Campaign will include activities under the theme: “Leave no one behind: End Violence against Women and Girls”, reflecting one of the targets of the Sustainable Development Goal “Gender Equality”.
Child-Marriage, which means any formal or informal union where one or both of the parties are under 18 years of age, is a form of violence which disproportionally affects girls. Girls who marry before 18 are more likely to face violence from an intimate partner throughout their life and may suffer massive health problems. As they are young, in most cases poorly educated and without any life experience, they often believe that their husbands are justified to mistreat them.
