Inner Wheel Club of Bangalore Orchards
District Chairman: Veena Niranjan
President :Vidhya Sridhar
Place: Government Model Primary School, Karithimmanahalli, Bangalore
Date: 30h April 2022
The Inner Wheel Club of Bangalore Orchards renovated two classrooms in a government school and combined them to make one smart classroom. The Club also provided the room with projector and furniture with contributions from the club and other sponsors.
The school caters to children from very poor background. It has a population of around 350 students. The club selected two rooms in the school building which were in a very bad condition and in need of urgent repair, to convert them into one big smart classroom. Extensive work was carried out. The common wall of the two classrooms was demolished and converted into one big room. Floor tiles were laid, the leaking roof was waterproofed, walls were painted, new fans,
electrical fittings and windows were fixed. An interactive state-of-the-art projector was installed. 50 special chairs with a desk were donated.
The new learning styles of children are different nowadays. The innovation in technology and using multimedia, help to bring abstract concepts into concrete
teaching. Schools must keep up with the pace of innovations in technology otherwise the student will be left behind. There is a digital divide between the poor and the affluent. This has become more so because of the COVID-19 pandemic. By providing the smart classroom, the club has helped the school and students with access to the best technology and ambience which only the affluent schools could afford.
