WHEEL CAN CERV in Taiping, Malaysia

In Malaysia, cervical cancer ranks third in the number of cases recorded among the types of cancer. In heeding the call worldwide by International Inner Wheel President Ebe Panitteri Martines to stop cervical cancer, President Karamjeet Kaur of the Inner Wheel Club of Taiping spearheaded “Wheel Can Cerv. The project aimed to conduct free Pap smear screening of 30 ladies from the lowest-income group (Malaysian government B40 classification), including a talk on cervical cancer awareness to an audience of 50 ladies.


IWC Taiping Past President Dr Karen Jeet Kaur who is an obstetrician and gynaecologist, coordinated with staff of KPJ Medical Centre and Lablink to conduct the free pap smear tests in a hotel in Taiping. She also delivered an informative and interesting talk on cervical cancer.


The event, in commemoration of World Inner Wheel Day, was held on 23 January 2022. It was graced by the Guest of Honour, Ms S. Kavaramma, the Director of the Perak State Women's Development Department. Also in attendance were District 330 Extension Organiser Mrs Peggy Lee and Webmaster Mrs Lucy Barrock.


The participants gained much knowledge from the talk and were later treated to brunch.
