The COVID-19 pandemic has wrought unprecedented upheaval in the lives of many. For early-stage COVID patients, Oxygen Concentrators (OCs) have provided a vital lifeline. Thus, the Inner Wheel Club of Kuala Lumpur (IWCKL) felt privileged to be called upon to co-sponsor a few units. This project is a collaboration with the Rotary Club of Port Klang (RCPK) and their Partner-in-Service, the Charity Food Basket (CFB), Klang.
This project entails loaning out medical aids, for instance, customised beds, wheelchairs, commodes, oxygen tanks and OCs, free of charge, to impoverished patients for their recovery at home. Both RCPK and CFB work closely together to oversee the logistics, i.e., the purchase, delivery, maintenance and repair of these medical equipment.
Many of the OCs have now almost reached the end of their life span. Hence, IWCKL kick-started the sponsorship by donating four units. Honorary Member Toh Puan Aishah Ong, members Datin Brenda and Datin Vynette, generously sponsored one each. Heartfelt appreciation also to kind donors, Puan Sri Cecilia Lim who donated two units, Donna Cheok, one unit and Datuk J. Tan, two units, quickly bringing the total to 12 units.
On 27th October 2021, the handover and cheque presentation ceremony were held at the CFB Centre. Toh Puan Aishah Ong and President Jinny Lum, together with 11 IWCKL members presented a RM 21,0000/- cheque for the purchase of the OCs. PP Chew Song Kong, the founder and Chairman, on behalf of CFB, and President Aleen Foo, on behalf of RCPK, accepted the cheque. Each IWCKL member then affixed a plaque denoting the name of the Club on each OC.
Following the presentation, PP Chew proceeded to give the members a tour of the premises. They were all greatly impressed with how well-run CFB, a non-profit organisation, is, complete with rat and burglar-proofed containers to store the medical equipment and food supplies! A scrumptious halal luncheon awaited all at the end of the tour.
Once again, IWCKL extends sincere thanks to the eight benefactors who responded so swiftly to the clarion call for these life-saving medical devices. To RCPK and CFB, to be accorded the privilege of being your Partner-In-Service , IWCKL is indeed honoured.
