Deepavali cheer came early this year for the children of Karunai IIlam Home, with compliments from the Inner Wheel Club of Kuala Lumpur (IWCKL). This Home, located in Kepong, houses the girls while the boys are placed in Anbu IIlam in Ulu Klang. To date, there are 41 children ages 10 to 15 from distressed homes staying in. Both homes are run by the Saiva Siddhantha Mandram.
IWCKL had taken cognisance of their pressing needs and was happy to gift them with a Panasonic 18-kg load washing machine, a premium food grinder, 2 pressure cookers, a thosai pan, materials for the girls’ kurtis and settled the tailoring charges for 26 blouse tops at RM28 each.
On top of it, the club handed over sugar and milk, 12 bottles of Vitamin C tablets , Milo packets, 30 pillows and a generous amount of biscuits and titbits from member Balvinder. Our appreciation also goes to Beryl’s of Malaysia for donating 50 cans of cocoa powder and 48 bars of chocolates, and to member Lyna Boon for her gift of face masks.
President Jinny Lum graciously handed over the items to Mr Muthiah S., a representative of the Home.
This project was coordinated by Rajeswari and ably assisted by PP Navam, Chandrika, IIW PBD Joy Sundram and Datin Dr Retnavathi. Other members enthusiastically chipped in to donate gifts of cash to this meaningful cause.
On this auspicious Festival of Lights, IWCKL is delighted to help illuminate the lives of these children and bring them some joy and good cheer.
Here’s wishing all Hindu members “A Happy and Joyous Diwali”.
