A Deepavali Night To Remember

Inner Wheel Club of Alor Setar (IWCAS) of District 330 had been spending a relatively quiet and safe few months with the relentless onslaught of the pandemic and the roller coaster statistics of covid-19 positive cases being announced on a daily basis. However, this scenario changed on the night of 27 November 2020, when members gathered at the home of Club Correspondent, Ishka Kaur, for a fun-filled and glamourous night of celebrating the festival of lights.

Members arrived for the dinner and dance, looking resplendent in their themed attire, and with the lights and décor that had been put up, we easily matched any top-notch Bollywood style party. A gastronomic delight to titillate taste buds was laid out and if the way to anyone’s heart is through food, the potluck spread was certainly the winning formula.

The night started off with the lighting of the candle and the recitation of the Candle of Friendship poem. This was followed by the induction of three new members, Bee Ching, Catherine and Saroja (in absentia) who officially received their badges from President Tunku Munirah. When it was announced that food was served, members had a truly finger licking good time.

It was then time for everyone to let their hair down and be foot loose and fancy free. A delightful selection of Bollywood and Malaysian music that reverberated the atmosphere saw members taking to the floor to showcase their dancing talent. Three members were also chosen as best dressed and received surprise gifts from host Ishka.

As the night came to an end, the smiles on the faces of members told the story of the wonderful camaraderie that had been forged among the members. IWC AS is just two years old but the way members easily blended with one another looked as if our friendship goes back a gazillion years.
