As communities around the world continue to respond to the rapidly evolving COVID-19 situation, the Inner Wheel Club of Alor Setar (IWC AS) also reached out to help. The state of Kedah in Malaysia where IWC AS is located, found itself hit by an onslaught of exponentially rising covid-19 cases, leading to the government identifying a number of clusters where the cases were spreading from. One such cluster was the ‘Tembok” cluster, which involved a massive outbreak in a prison in the little town of Pokok Sena.
Responding to an appeal from the prison authorities for three-ply face masks, Inner Wheel Club of Alor Setar, District 330 quickly got its act together. Through some charity funds from the Club and generous donations from the public, the President Tunku Munirah and ExCo member, Tunku Zamharir obtained special permission to travel to Pokok Sena to personally handover 100 boxes of three-ply face masks to the Administrative Officer in charge of the prison.
We wanted to do something to help our front-liners and all other essential workers who keep our lives in motion, despite the enormous risks they face. The scale and impact of the covid-19 pandemic is difficult for us to wrap our minds around. The thoughts of members of IWC AS are with the people affected and the medical professionals working around the clock to help those most in need. IWC AS hopes to be able to continue to help from time to time and join the world in praying for an end to this pandemic, the likes of which has not been seen in this lifetime.
