Donate through Reading in Bulgaria
One more charity cause realised by the project “Donate through reading”Read More
One of the favourite, long time traditions of the Inner Wheel Club of Walnut Creek, is the yearly Baby Shower when we bring clothing, blankets, and caps for babies born at our regional hospital, which serves all people in the county with special attention to those who are most vulnerable to health problems. In the accompanying photos you can see the number, variety, and cuteness factor of what is contributed. Many of the items are purchased, but some of our members knit blankets throughout the year or bring handmade pieces from their church group.
This last year, following the example of our neighbouring IW Club of El Cerrito, we extended our layette contribution to going to the hospital and assembling the complete layette packages to be distributed to the new mothers. Three or four of us go to the hospital every other month. Each new mother gets a bag that includes a book, bib, booties, onesie, hat, socks, and a blanket, often hand made. Also included in the bag is a thermometer. We are always trying to coordinate the cute onesies with a matching blanket. We work for a couple of hours and complete about 100 layettes. We have been told by the volunteer coordinator that there can be 150 births in one month!
We have fun getting together to create this support for our community.
