A group of IIW members of 9 nationalities met in Vienna for a 4 days cruise on the Danube: from Vienna to Budapest and return via Ezstergom and Bratislava to Vienna.
The cruise was arranged by IIW Board Director Gabriele Schrümpf from Austria.
Surprise, surprise – the river Danube did not carry enough water for the boat trip, hence we had to switch to a bustrip on short notice. Due to the flexibility of our IIW friends a number accepted the change and so we were heading off towards Hungary.
Over the course of three days we rushed through an impressive program - sightseeing in Budapest, Ezstergom and Bratislava and despite (or because of!) the circumstances and the challenging weather conditions we grew rapidly together as a group. Visits to historic places like the coffeshop Gerbeaud gave us also time to communicate with our Hungarian IWC Budapest friends and discuss their and our experiences in IW.
Lots of interesting conversations in English, French and Italian took place and built the foundation for good contacts in the future. Our last stop in Bratislava/Slovakia was a very good closing experience and completed the picture of this Central European region for all participants.
Despite the slightly awkward weather conditions the spirit of Inner Wheel made the journey a real success. Many thanks to Gabi for the idea and arrangments.
