Antibes Marina - Birth of a new FAMAT Club

The 20 members of the new Club had indeed chosen this 8th of March, International Woman’s Day, as a strong symbol, to be presented their Charter.

The ceremony took place at the Negresco, the prestigious hotel on the French Riviera, with almost 200 guests, including Elisabeth Haye, National Representative and FAMAT President, singing along the IW anthem!

The Charter Ceremony and the presentation of the collar to the young President were both very emotional and greeted by thunderous applause.

This warm charity evening offered the opportunity of strong and symbolic moments.

A young woman, recently elected Member of French Parliament explained the struggle of a woman to reach this responsibility.

A young sailor on the «Route du Rhum» race, and soon only woman competing in the next «Vendée Globe», described how she created an information kit to explain to primary school children how important it is to protect oceans from all sorts of pollution.

A lottery then collected funds for four associations, each involved in the IIW three year charity plans.

  • One aimed at autistic chidren, to improve their integration at school and in sport activities ;
  • Another one organising a new space to welcome and help women suffering of feminine cancers ;
  • A third one helping dependent persons suffering of Alzheimer ;
  • And an association involved in children education for marine biodiversity.

The following day, the newly born club had organised a day out in Monaco for their IW visitors.

 A lavish tour of the old town and the cathedral, the Changing of the Guard ceremony at the Prince’s Palace, were followed by an excellent meal. The group completed their day at the Casino where it is said that they had more fun and laughter than success at the slot machines!

The day ended around a friendly table where everyone could celebrate again with our new friends, wishing the IW Antibes Marina Club a long and fruitful life.
