District 95 Egypt & Jordan celebrated the International Women's Day on March 11th at the Cairo Marriott Hotel in the presence of National Representative Mrs Suzan Samaha , District Chairman Mrs Samyia Hatata, the District Committee and members from numerous clubs in Egypt.
The guests of honor were Dr. Jehan Al Sadat, the widow of the late President El Sadat, an advocate of women's rights and Beheira Governor Engineer Nadia Abdo, the 1st woman governor in Egypt who is also a member of IWC of Alexandria and the Representative of the Minister of Social Solidarity Dr. Ghada Wally who could not attend at the last minute.
Numerous Inner Wheel & Rotary dignitaries including members of Alexandria Golden Riders Rotary Club attended the full house event.
Mrs Suzan Samaha mentioned the Women's Day history and how it started since 1908 with 15000 women marching in New York asking for their rights to vote better salaries less work hours and in 1910 in a Convention at Copenhagen it was approved that March 8ths will be Women’s Day and the following year 1911 was the first Women’s Day celebration. Egypt's President declared a women year praising her role and equality.
Now, we have 90 Senators in Egyptian Parliament, 7 Ministers and for the first time a Governor.
She also thanked all Inner Wheel members in Egypt and Jordan for their great efforts and work in all fields especially the Mega National Project for "homeless children" which will surely leave a lasting legacy.
District Chairman Mrs Samyia Hatata's speech welcoming all guests and highlighting the significant role women play in today's world. Focusing on the Inner Wheel women in the audience, she praised and commended their ongoing efforts to turn this year's "Homeless Children" mega project to a great success.
The Inner Wheel's guest of honor, Mrs Jehan El Sadat, in her turn gave a speech expressing her pride in the Inner Wheel women and their accomplishments all throughout the years.
And last but not least, Mrs Nadia Abdo gave an inspiring speech thanking members of the IW clubs for their support of the "Tahya Misr" initiative, which has greatly improved the living conditions of Egyptian families. Mrs Nadia then discussed current notable economic projects such as the Egyptian gas extraction, which was done in record time, and the conversion of Al Beheira governate to a religious destination by promoting "The Holly Family Trip".
Finally, each guest of honor was given a shield of recognition by D95 Chairman Mrs Samyia Hatata and NR Mrs Suzan Samaha in appreciation and recognition of the important role they played in our society.
Everyone then enjoyed lunch, photos and laughs that nurtured and developed the ties of friendship amongst us all.
