The Mayor's of Colchester, Basildon, and the City of Chelmsford were all willing to attend planting ceremonies to receive their gifts of roses, presented by District Chairman Janet Larkey, which attracted press coverage and interest from local radio stations. Their goal, which was to publicise Inner Wheel has been achieved and all the effort involved had been rewarded.
Money raised at District Committee meetings will contribute to plaques which will be placed in the rose beds during Summer 2018, when the roses are more established, giving yet more publicity to Inner Wheel. They will invite the Mayors again to gain more publicity.
On a bright October afternoon Inner Wheel Association of GB&I President Liz Thomas visited the Inner Wheel Forever roses donated to the gardens at Lake Meadows Park, Billericay. President Liz wished to see how the roses were progressing and the pleasure they were giving to those passing by. Liz was accompanied by Celia Clark, District 24 Chairman, Jane Brown, Past District Chairman and the President and members of the Inner Wheel Club of Billericay.
Liz was visiting the District for a few days and the day after visiting the roses she attended the District Rally at Channels Estate, Chelmsford with 92 members attending from around the District.
This initiative will Leave a Lasting Legacy for Inner Wheel within their communities as well as giving pleasure to passers-by for many years to come.
This year Association of GB&I President Liz Thomas has nominated Children’s Hospices as her charity. The charity local to District 24 is Little Haven Children’s Hospice. In September, a small group of members was invited to visit the Hospice to find out more about the activities of the organization. District Chairman Celia Clark and members were pleased to be joined by Association of GB&I International Service Committee Chairman Shamim Govani and Fozia Zuberi, National Representative Pakistan.
