The celebration of Golden Jubilee of any organization is a momentous event in its history. It is an occasion to remember all those members who made their club great. It is a time to introspect and reflect back to gauge whether the club is preserving the rich legacy which has been our inheritance.
Inner Wheel Club of Shimla commemorated 50th remarkable Golden Year of service which was celebrated at the historic location, Shimla - the Queen of Hills. This year is still special as International Inner Wheel is also celebrating its Golden Jubilee with Dr. Kapila Gupta from India as IIW president.
The journey of IWC Shimla started way back in 1967 with Dr. Kailash Sharma as its Charter President and Mrs. Kanan Diwan as the Charter Secretary. Stalwarts like PIIWBD Renu Baljee, PDC Kanan Diwan, PDC Bhuvan Rana, PDC Meena Ranaut and PDC Neelam Vij have added to the glory of the club.
September 18th, 2017, witnessed the grand celebration of its 50 glorious years of existence. Inauguration of a ‘Happy School’ at Kaithu by the Association President Patricia Hilton along with District Chairman Shashi Kir, District EC, and PDC included mesmerizing performances by students and distribution of eatables to all children and staff. This was followed by a donation of 5 Baby Prams, 2 Wheel Chairs and 10 Large Umbrellas to Vendors with Inner Wheel Logo; 50 Hand Knitted Baby Suits along with Caps and Booties and 100 pairs of Shoes and Socks for students. 50 Golden Balloons were also symbolically released into the air.
The Banquet Hall illuminated with Golden lights, Golden Décor and all the members clad in sun-kissed Golden Sarees added warmth and enthusiasm to the special day. A presentation: ‘Journey down the Memory Lane’, highlighted the Club Leaders and the Major Projects of IWC Shimla over the past 50 years. The initiation of two vocational centers, beautification and maintenance of two parks, two ‘Happy Schools’ and a Guide Map near Accountant General’s Office put up by Inner Wheel, a major landmark in Shimla, were some focal points of the captivating presentation. It was followed by an interesting Chat Show with PDC Kanan Diwan, the Charter Secretary of the Club, which showcased her journey and growth in Inner Wheel. Breathtaking performances by the students of Portmore School before the felicitations added to the celebrations.
The Club which started with just 12 members 50 years ago in 1967 now has more than 76 members. Generations of Shimla members have contributed to the outstanding achievements of the club. Inner Wheel Club of Shimla indeed is a feather in the cap of Inner Wheel District 308 and Association of Inner Wheel clubs in India.
