Friendship Days

Inner Wheel Italy share Friendship Days May 2017.

The three-days event began on May 5th 2017 at the “Spanish College” in Bologna, where the President of the National Council of Italy, Alessandra Colcelli Gasperini, gave a press conference to publicize Inner Wheel Italy and the Friendship Days hosted by IW Club of Bologna.

The President of Santo Stefano city quarter, the President of IW Club of Bologna and the Rector of the Spanish College talked about the history of the city and the endless cultural and tourist opportunities and attractions it offers the visitors.

 

After a light aperitif/lunch, the participants visited the city Picture Gallery where the Director showed and described a large number of paintings characterized by the presence of the rose which is the “queen of flowers” as well as the symbol of Inner Wheel. Later on, at Palazzo Grassi , the round table “Members discuss about IW today” was held, followed by the Friendship dinner in the historical Restaurant “Donatello”.

The day after, a large choice of tours was offered to participants: - Riolo Terme and Brisighella in Romagna - Strada dei Motori e dei Sapori, with a visit to Museo Lamborghini and lunch at the XVIIIth century “Villa Orsi” at Funo di Argelato - Tour of the city of Bologna by Red Bus - Walking visit of the city. In the afternoon, in the Church of San Martino Maggiore, the charity concert “The colours of music” was held to raise funds in favour of AIRC cancer research: while the pianist, Simona Granelli, President of IW Club of Spoleto was performing on the piano, the artist Caterina Calabresi, President of IW Club of Gubbio, painted a picture being inspired by the music she was listening to.

 

 

 

 

The picture was presented by District 209 Chairman to the AIRC Researcher Sara Ciceri, who won the scholarship granted by the National Council of Italy. Photo 10a The successful Friendship Dinner at Palazzo Grassi was attended by a large number of Members .

 

 

On Sunday 7th May, after the Holy Mass which was celebrated in the Church of San Martino Maggiore, the participants reached the “Barracano”, an old institute where girl orphans used to be sheltered and educated to learn a living. A group of children wore the dresses from a city stylist’s shop and the President of the event “Gardens and Terraces” talked about the re-discovery of the rose of Bologna. A walking lunch concluded the important meeting which undoubtedly was a big success and registered the presence of about 330 participants.
