Coming World Remember Me (CWRM)

Coming World Remember Me Project supported by the IW Club of Brugge, D62, Belgium & Luxembourg, April 2016

Coming World Remember Me

On the 14th of April the IW Club of Brugge visited the mobile art gallery CWRM Spermalie.┬ The Principal of ÔÇťDe ÔÇô KadeÔÇŁ, Kathleen Deweerdt, being a member of our Club, guided us around this interesting project.

This Institute organizes yearly a project for people with visual disabilities. This year theyÔÇÖve chosen the memorial project CWRM (COMINGWORLDREMEMBERME).

The Institute Spermalie opened its doors a whole week to participate at this mobile project.

The CWRM project will design between 2014 and 2018 figurines made of Belgian and German clay. All these figurines symbolize one of the 600,000 victims that got killed in Belgium during WW I. They resemble a huddled person with the name of one of the victims engraved.

These 600,000 figurines, accompanied by 2 bigger statues made by Koen Vanmechelen, will create a piece of landscape art in the former ÔÇśno manÔÇÖs land of the frontlineÔÇÖ, at provincial domain De Palingbeek of Ypres.

On Thursday 14th of April we all got the opportunity to become real artist and created a figurine.

Our Madam President offered on behalf of Inner Wheel Brugge, a cheque to support this project.

Each of us became godmother of a figurine and received a personalized certificate with a dog-tag.

In April 2018 can we follow the sad story of a fallen soldier, whose name is engraved in the list at the Flanders Fields Museum.

With this project we aim to support children in war areas, living with physical or psychological suffering.
